Homemade Solar System

One day early this winter, Bug and I made our solar system in her room.  We used bowls of different sizes to mark cardboard, then cut them out and painted them with tempera paints – I recommend painting a white primer layer first, with acrylic – if your cardboard is dark like ours was.

We used an image from online as our guide.  We left out Pluto – because Pluto isn’t a planet (you probably already knew that – if not, read this).

All of them are hung with thread, and a couple of push pins.

Every time a person visits her room for the first time, she hops onto her bed, under the sun, and names all the planets for them.  For an afternoon’s worth of activity – we’ve gotten a lot of mileage and enjoyment out of it!
